Browser calling
You can make and take business calls right in the SimpleVox web app. No desk phone, no extra hardware. The people you call see your business number, not your personal one.
Get ready to take calls
Section titled “Get ready to take calls”-
Sign in at my.simplevox.app in an up-to-date browser on your computer.
-
Open your profile menu at the top of the sidebar and find the Browser phone switch. It’s on unless you’ve turned it off. On a small screen, the switch sits in the bar at the bottom.
-
When your browser asks to use your microphone, choose Allow. If the status says Microphone needed, choose Allow mic.
-
Check that the status reads Ready. Calls ring in this browser. A green dot on your profile picture means you’re ready.
-
Call your number from another phone to check that it rings and that you can hear each other.
Your browser only rings when the number’s call flow rings you. If a test call doesn’t reach you, check that you’re in a ring step on that number.
What the status means
Section titled “What the status means”| Status | What to do |
|---|---|
| Ready | Nothing. Calls ring in this browser. |
| Off | Calls won’t ring here. Turn the switch back on. |
| Microphone needed | Choose Allow mic and allow the microphone when your browser asks. |
| Microphone blocked | Allow the microphone in your browser’s site settings (the lock icon in the address bar), then choose Retry. |
| In another tab | The phone works in one tab at a time. Turn it off in the other tab, then choose Retry here. |
| Audio paused | Choose Connect audio. |
| No number | You don’t have a number yet. Ask an admin to give you one. |
| Reconnecting or Offline | Check your internet connection. |
The dot on your profile picture is green when you’re ready, yellow when the phone needs attention and red when it’s off.
Answer a call
Section titled “Answer a call”When a call rings, the call card shows the number it came in on, such as Office or Crew, and who’s calling: the contact’s name if the number is saved, otherwise the number itself. That way you know whether to answer with your business name or the crew’s.
Choose Answer or Decline. Declining stops it ringing for you, and the call carries on through the call flow.
If you’re signed in on more than one device, they all ring. Answer on one and the others stop.
Make a call
Section titled “Make a call”-
In the inbox, choose the phone icon next to New text. Or use the phone icon on a conversation or on a contact’s number.
-
Check Call from at the top of the phone. The person you call sees that number. Calls you start from a conversation go out from that conversation’s number.
-
Enter the number and press Enter, or choose Call.
The call shows up in that conversation in the number’s inbox, so the rest of the team can see it happened.
During a call
Section titled “During a call”- Mute turns your microphone off and on.
- Keypad sends tones, for example to get through another business’s phone menu.
- Audio settings let you pick your microphone, speaker and ringtone device.
- Minimize tucks the call card away while you look something up in the inbox.
- Pop out keeps the phone on top of your other windows, so you can work in other apps during a call. It’s available in Chrome and Edge on a computer.
- Hang up ends the call.
You can’t put a call on hold or transfer it to a teammate.
If a call doesn’t go through
Section titled “If a call doesn’t go through”When a call can’t connect, you hear why on the call and the inbox shows the reason, such as Number not in service, Busy, Declined or No answer.
If your connection drops while a call is starting, the phone says “Your last call didn’t confirm. Check it before calling again.” Choose Check last call to see whether it went through, or Cancel last call. SimpleVox never redials on its own, so you won’t call a customer twice by accident.
Tips for clear calls
Section titled “Tips for clear calls”- Use a headset. A wired or Bluetooth headset with a microphone cuts echo and background noise.
- Use a steady connection. Wired or strong Wi-Fi works best. Busy hotspots can make calls choppy.
- Check your microphone permission if callers can’t hear you. Look for the microphone or lock icon in your browser’s address bar.
- Pick the right devices. If you have more than one microphone or speaker, choose them in Audio settings.
On the go
Section titled “On the go”Take your business line with you in the SimpleVox mobile app. Make and take calls on your business number and check the inbox between jobs. It stays in sync with the web app, so the office and the field work from the same inbox.
The web app also works in your phone’s browser. If you’d rather have calls reach your personal mobile when you’re away from SimpleVox, add a Forward to a number step after the step that rings you, set to Ask them to press 1. See Call routing.
